Woodburning a Beautiful Santa

Celebrate the holidays by creating a seasonal keepsake with our woodburning instructor Jan Carney. Students will go home with a finished Santa Claus portrait on a live edge basswood plaque. Jan Carney will guide students in proper safety procedures including how to use a burner stylus. Students will also learn how to transfer patterns and seal their wood burning. They will then learn how to burn and shade a portrait. Learning proper techniques and procedures will allow students the freedom to create their own unique designs. Students may bring a package of Prisma colored pencils to embellish their images with color.

About the Instructor
Jan Carney

When I am creating, I am at my happiest. The hands on creative process focuses my mindcand lets my spirit soar. I work in Acrylics, Watercolor, Pyrography, and mixed media, and experiment with much more.
In my previous career I was a nurse and worked in healthcare for over 30 years. After retiring from nursing I began dabbling in the arts and took a few classes.
I create our art at our home/ studio in beautiful Fannin County where we reside with our family consisting of my Son and Daughter -in-law and dogs, too. I am also an avid gardener and love to preserve our home grown foods.
Recently I have begun teaching some classes at Olive’s Porch in Murphy, and at Blue Ridge Mountain Arts Center. I also periodically assist Suzanne DesLauriers at John C. Campbell Folk School when she has a watercolor class. My Husband, Reid, also enjoys woodcarving and is a member of the Carver’s Guild. I am currently the coordinator of the Blue Ridge Drawing Group as well.
