Artist Statement
What setting could be more enticing for a painter than endless miles of trails through the mountains? As an impressionist painter from Rome, Georgia, I am determined to share the beauty of creation through my oil paintings.
Painting began as a result of observing nature. Spending so much time on the trails, I became captivated by how light transforms the colors of the landscape throughout the day. There’s nothing quite like witnessing a sunrise after the darkest hours before dawn, or racing against the deep orange sunlight as it dances from tree to tree at dusk. Stars seem to shine brighter after running all night with friends.
Lately, I’ve been fascinated by the thousands of colors cast by warm sunlight shining through flower petals. I’m committed to capturing true light and color—whether it’s a bloom or a bend in the trail. I often paint en plein air to maintain accuracy and connection with the subject. Being primarily self-taught, my work continues to evolve into a style that’s distinctly my own.
Plein air painting has also become a favorite way for me to connect with both nature and my community. During long runs, I carry a mint tin in my backpack, ready to pause for a quick study of the landscape. On race day, you might find me at the start line—or painting at the top of the steepest climb.
Community is essential to creating. No matter the level of skill, we all have something to learn from one another. Both painting and running stretch my abilities and open meaningful connections with others as we celebrate growth, challenge ourselves, and share the journey.
My work is loved and collected by those in my community. I am a member of Oil Painters of America, the American Impressionist Society, and the Booth Artist Guild. The more I create, the stronger I feel the unshakable desire to share the beauty of our Creator.
I’ll never forget hiking with a dear friend who apologized for stopping at every overlook. Towering pines reached skyward as a waterfall rushed below with power and grace—I didn’t blame her one bit.
I believe we should be stopped in our tracks by the wonder of creation more often. I share my artwork so that others might see the beauty of their Creator—in their surroundings, in others, and in themselves.
