Acrylic Painting Workshop with instructor Maria Weed at The Art Center in Blue Ridge, GA

Sky’s the Limit: Acrylic Painting Workshop

Learn how to paint the sky while exploring the basics of the color wheel in this one-day acrylic painting workshop. Ideal for beginners, this class will teach students how to work with color and incorporate different tones into their work. Our instructor Maria Weed will guide students through the concepts of color relationships (primary, secondary, and tertiary colors) and color saturation. Once the students have achieved solid understanding of these concepts, they will then learn how to make decisions about color when creating a work of art.  Students will then create cumulus clouds and sunsets with color and shadow. Additional techniques which will be covered are selecting appropriate brushes and blending colors. Along the way, Maria will encourage students to have fun, explore techniques, and enjoy painting the sky.

About the Instructor

Maria Weed

Maria grew up in New Jersey. Her dad inspired her to paint by taking her to waterfalls and scenic places, always filling her with encouragement and praise. Maria went to school in New York City at the Traphagen School of Fashion Design and Illustration. She also attended the School of Visual Arts and did some freelance art for the American Greeting Cards company. Later, she became an art designer for International Playtex and then a layout artist and illustrator for Parade magazine. As time moved on, Maria got married and had three wonderful sons. Her husband’s job took them to six different states ending in Florida. After her husband’s passing, her hospice counselor encouraged her to go back into painting and rediscover her love for art. She joined the Dunedin Fine Arts Center. Maria has worked in most mediums and is currently in acrylic. Her art has been displayed in culture centers, hospitals, restaurants, and galleries. He has donated her work and has given proceeds to charities. Website- www.mariaweed.com
