Golden Aspens Acrylic Painting Class
In this class, we will discover how to capture the beauty of the Aspen tree, their brilliant white trunks and bright canopy of yellow leaves. Learn to layer color and texture to create depth in this acrylic painting workshop. Students will learn how to bring your Aspen trees to life using acrylic paints while simultaneously exploring color, texture, and learning composition. During the class, you will learn various painting techniques, such as sponging to create foliage, using negative space for the aspens, and how to use a palette knife for edging and texture. This class is perfect for beginner and intermediate levels, and anyone looking to expand their knowledge of acrylic painting.
Please bring some paper towels, as well as an easel if you have one (if you do not have an easel, one will be provided by the Art Center).
About the Instructor
Maria Weed
Maria grew up in New Jersey. Her dad inspired her to paint by taking her to waterfalls and scenic places, always filling her with encouragement and praise. Maria went on to school in New York City at the Traphagen School of Fashion Design and Illustration. She also attended the School of Visual Arts and did some freelance art for American Greeting Cards. Later, she became an Art designer for International Playtex and then a layout artist and illustrator for Parade magazine. As time moved on, Maria got married and had three wonderful sons. Her husband's job took them to six different states, ending in Florida. After her husband's passing, her hospice counselor encouraged her to go back into painting and her love for art. Shortly thereafter she joined the Dunedin Fine Arts Center. Maria has worked in most mediums and is currently working in acrylic. Here in Florida, her art has been displayed in Culture Centers, Hospitals, Restaurants and Galleries. She has also donated her work to the Clearwater Free Clinic (Martinis n Matisse) for the past ten years. Also given art proceeds to St. Jude. Today, she has art on display in multiple galleries in GA. Here her subjects include mountains, wildflowers, barns, cows, horses and deer. Some of her artwork can be seen on her website: MariaWeed.com. Maria loves painting and does so on most days. She feels it relaxes her body and mind. Painting is rewarding in so many ways. When her art is solid, the reward is knowing it has touched someone else's heart enough to take it home for display.
