Appalachian Cobweb Broom Making Workshop at The Art Center in Blue Ridge, GA

Appalachian Cobweb Broom Workshop

Built for artists who have some prior knowledge in broom making, this class will continue to explore the traditional and contemporary Appalachian craft beyond the beginner’s level. Using a foot treadle and nylon twine, students will make a Cobweb broom and learn to plait with broomcorn stalks. Foot treadle experience is necessary for this class.

By the end of the class, students will have a completed Cobweb broom plaited with craft corn on a 36” stick, as well as knowledge of how to soak, mellow, and plait craft corn.
